My boyfriend asked me what I thought about gun control last night. He seemed to think I would have a strong opinion on the topic. But the truth is, I don't.
The thing I do care about when it comes to guns is that I think parents should be held legally responsible in a very, very strict way if their kids mess around with them. A lot of kids shoot other kids by accident with their parents' or some other adult's guns. I think parents should be held very, very responsible for that.
But other that, you can buy guns all over the world. I don't want to take away anyone's guns, I don't even think it has much to do with freedom. I mean, does smoking pot have to do with freedom? I think smoking pot should be legal but regulated and taxed. Who cares? That's what it really does come to, though. Who cares.
I care about public education, health insurance, the environment and public transportation.
That's where I think America sometimes diverges. Because sometimes I think that an anti-Obama person just doesn't understand why he spends money on things that they wouldn't spend money on. It's really a difference of priorities and how we spend. It's not that Obama is spending a lot more, it's just on different things.
That's where I think the debate will really end up in the next couple months. Is he spending on things you see as necessary or does he spend on things you don't identify with or care about?
