step back...and look away from the screen for a moment.

As May approaches ever more quickly, and we all find ways to crunch minutes so that we can read various political blogs, there's something that I think is forgotten-- at least it is for me sometimes.

No well known political blogger in Pittsburgh is part of the actual strategy group for any campaign.

I have yet to see the Ravenstahl campaign touting Matt Hogue as a hired gun to be a political strategist for them. Nor anyone else, for that matter. Perhaps the Burgh Report was, but it's gone so it doesn't make much of a difference now, unfortunately. Sometimes by habit I almost pull up the burgh report url on my blackberry, only to remember that it is gone. Fortunately, 2 PJ is still here even though it's not local as often.

Mostly though, I think it's important to remember that the blogs shouldn't be taken as the campaign statements.

Do I sound tired and old? Well, I feel that way.

That's really all I have to say on that topic.

*some people have informed me that some bloggers *are* helping candidates. But still.

I will be on the staff of a local campaign as of this Monday.

Aww, a candidate for president of the tools of the system wants your help.

how cute.

How about you take a step back from your mental power trip and realize that you're just someone other campaigns use for their own purposes and don't care about you?

Wow. Your really angry for some reason.

Mental power trip? Where is that from?

I think your just mad because your candidates just never win on a local level. A lot of you other bloggers hate it that I support people who win.

If I am someone that is just used then why did I get hired? How is that getting used?

You so far out of touch with what's reality in local politics.

I take it your supporting Dowd for Mayor?

First off, I thought that your attack on Dok Harris was unwarranted.

Secondly, political reality in Pittsburgh doesn't mean it's a good reality.

Thirdly, I think that Luke's people send you stuff for your blog-- and other people think that, too.

I supported Chelsa Wagner and she won. I supported Bruce Kraus and he won. I supported Patrick Dowd and he won. I supported Heather Arnet and she won. I supported Petite and he won. I supported Ricky Burgess and he won.

So no, not all of my candidates lose.

Have you ever thought about why it is that you support Luke? Or the establishment?

and I'm really referring to the first attack you made on Harris.

I'm glad you have so much to back up your opinion with.

Look it, Matt. They send bloggers press releases. That's the purpose of blogs.

How often do you get called up by most candidates on a Saturday night to go hang out with them?

Maybe some of them are your friends, but I'm willing to be that most are not.

You got involved in politics, got a good job, met powerful people. Clearly, it paid to play in politics for you.

You're not the only person who's ever found that out. But at the end of the day, you're still just a staffer or volunteer. Maybe a friend. Maybe someone they'll talk politics with.

But that's really it.

Shows that you don't know what your talking about. I am close personal friends with numerous members of City Council and other elected officials. I am on the phone with them and in person with them a lot.

More than you would ever know.

"But at the end of the day, you're still just a staffer or volunteer. "

Wrong.

Very impressive, Matt, but I suggest you make some new acquaintances.

Starting with Mr. Apostrophe.

After you demonstrate you can handle a commitment at that level, it would be time to begin to address your relationship with standards and rules.

Good luck on your quest, grasshopper.
